The Build-Up

Every layer of a Sikalastic® roof

A liquid roof is a system, not a tin. Miss one primer and the guarantee goes with it. This is the stack from deck to top coat — each layer links to the product we keep on the racks.

00

The deck

Concrete, screed, ply, OSB, profiled metal, or sound existing felt and asphalt. Clean, dry, sound and free of dust, oil and grease before anything goes near it.

Your substrate — everything above is chosen to suit it
01

Primer

Matched to the deck, not to habit. The wrong primer is the single most common reason a liquid system fails adhesion testing. Full selector table below.

02

Air & vapour control layer

S-Vap 5000E SA — self-adhesive polymer-modified bitumen with a glass-fibre mat and aluminium foil face. No fixings, no hot works, and it doubles as temporary weathering while the build proceeds.

03

Base coat

First pass of Sikalastic® D-10 RoofPro. Single component, cold applied, no mixing. It cures on atmospheric moisture, which is why it behaves itself in a Kent autumn.

04

Reinforcement

Sika® Reemat Premium glass fleece, laid wet-on-wet into the base coat and rolled out. This gives the finished membrane its tensile strength and crack-bridging. Two widths so you’re not cutting field rolls into upstand strips.

05

Top coat

Second pass of D-10, fully saturating the fleece. Seamless, vapour permeable, elastic at low temperature and rain-safe almost immediately after application.

06

Details, seals and coming back later

Upstands, kerbs, outlets, flashings and the bits that actually leak. Plus the primer you need when you return to a cured roof outside its overcoat window.

Always work to the current Sika product data sheet and system specification for your build-up — coverage rates, overcoat windows and primer requirements vary by substrate and by system. Send us the roof dimensions and deck type and we’ll price a full build-up by the square metre.

Primer Selector

Which Sika primer for which deck

The question we get asked at the counter more than any other. Find your substrate, take the primer next to it.

Guide only — confirm against the current Sika system specification for your project.
SubstratePrimerPackNotes
Concrete, screed, cementitious decks Sika Concrete Primer LO Comp A+B, 4.5L Two-part, low odour. Mix the full kit — part batches won’t cure right.
Metal decks and larger metal areas Sikalastic® Metal Primer Comp A+B, 5L For field areas of profiled or sheet metal.
Flashings, small metal details, trims Sika Metal Primer 207N 250ml Small tin for detail work — no waste on a handful of upstands.
PVC and single-ply membranes Sikalastic® Primer PVC 1L For overlaying or detailing onto existing single-ply.
Aluminium-faced VCL (S-Vap 5000E SA) and bitumen carriers SikaRoof® Primer 600 12.5kg Also used to develop full self-adhesion strength in adhered build-ups.
Cured Sikalastic® outside its overcoat window Sika Reactivation Primer 5L Recoat and repair work — no stripping back required.

Questions From The Counter

Sika, answered

Are you an official Sika stockist in Kent?

Yes — we stock the Sika liquid roofing range at our yard in Herne Bay, near Whitstable, including Sikalastic® D-10 RoofPro, Reemat Premium, S-Vap 5000E SA and the primer range. If you need something from the wider Sika catalogue that isn’t on the racks, we’ll order it in for you.

How much Sikalastic® D-10 do I need per square metre?

Coverage depends on the substrate, the system specification and how much the fleece drinks, so always work to the current Sika product data sheet for your build-up rather than a rule of thumb. Send us the roof dimensions and deck type and we’ll do a take-off for you, including primer, fleece and detailing.

Can I apply Sikalastic® RoofPro over an existing felt roof?

Often yes — overlaying sound, well-adhered existing coverings is one of the main uses of a liquid system, and it avoids a strip-out. The existing surface has to be clean, dry and structurally sound, and the primer must be matched to it. It’s worth a phone call before you order so we can talk through what’s up there.

Which primer do I need?

It depends entirely on the deck: concrete takes Sika Concrete Primer LO, metal takes Sikalastic® Metal Primer or 207N for details, PVC single-ply takes Sikalastic® Primer PVC, and aluminium-faced vapour barriers take SikaRoof® Primer 600. There’s a full selector table further up this page.

Do I need to be a trained installer to buy Sika liquid roofing?

The Sikalastic® RoofPro range is intended for experienced roofing professionals, and Sika’s own guarantees are tied to their approved installer network. We’ll happily sell to any competent trade customer, and we can point you towards Sika’s training and guarantee routes if you want to get registered.

Can it be applied in cold or damp weather?

Sikalastic® RoofPro cures using atmospheric moisture, which makes it far more forgiving in British conditions than a lot of alternatives, and it’s rain-safe very shortly after application. There are still minimum temperature and substrate-dryness limits in the data sheet, so check those for the day you’re working.

Do you deliver Sika products to Canterbury and Thanet?

Yes — we deliver Sika materials across Whitstable, Herne Bay, Canterbury and Thanet, and throughout East Kent. Give us a call to arrange a delivery that fits your job.

Can I open a trade account?

Yes — we run credit and cash accounts for trade customers. There’s an application form on our contact page, or call the counter and we’ll walk you through it.
